When we rescued 19 year old TB Allie, she was in as bad a condition as any horse we have seen over our 40 years with horses. She could barely move and was simply a skeleton covered with a bit of thin hide showing some sparse faded brown-red, dead hair. For a former flat-track racer and long time eventer, this was a very sad ending indeed. However John saw just enough light in Allie's eyes to give him hope we could resurrect her from her apparent imminent death, so off we went—this time to the DYNAMITE races! Although Allie desperately needed both teeth and hoof care, she was so terribly debilitated, we felt we could not initially inflict such trauma no matter how well intended. Instead, we needed to see if we could stabilize her to even get her to that point. We started Allie on 4 small feedings per day each of which consisted of 2 cups PGR, 1/2 oz Dynamite Regular, 1/2 oz DynaSpark, and 1/4 cup HES made into a mash. Of course she had her water, free choice top grass hay and Free Choice Minerals of Izmine, NTM Salt, & 1 to 1. What we noticed is that she stood by her water (well, she could barely move after all!), and drank over twice what any other horse did. She also intially chowed down on her NTM Salt. Once she was eating (scarfing it down is more like it!), we started gradually increasing both the amounts of PGR and HES up to 1 qt and 1/2 cup respectively each feeding. Because of the high salt consumption, we also added in 1/2 oz Izmine to each of her 4 daily meals in addition to continuing to offer it free choice. Within just a day or so, Allie’s head started to come up off the ground and she had stopped trembling. Within about 3 weeks, she was able to hobble about her large pen although her right rear leg was sort of drawn up under her. Within 3 months, she was strong enough, and trusting enough, for mandatory teeth and hoof care. After 6 months, she had improved so much, and was down to normal once a day feedings, that we were able to put this glistening brown bay mare into the pasture with our 17 yr old retired broodmare as a permanent companion horse. Within a day of being in her new quarters, Allie was head mare and running around showing off her TB racing spirit! This morning, almost 4 years after resurrecting Allie, I saw her and her two racing-bred AQHA pasture mates racing around, tails at full flag, for about 10 minutes, bucking and kicking to beat the band and reveling in a free, horsey existence. Even in winter they all shine, they all have toplines, and they all have endurance. Of course they were also all showing off for our stallion, Big Mac Tivio who lives right next to them, and of course he encouraged it with his own prancing and dancing show. Instead of all being geriatrics, you would have thought these were just a bunch of 5 year old kids! What a difference DYNAMITE makes! CO Gold Director Rowan Emrys and John Hanna |

| Here's a picture of Allie after being in her permanent pasture home for a couple of weeks. Look at that shine with absolutely no grooming! Today she shows no evidence of any gimpiness at all in that right leg. |
