DYNAMITE TESTIMONIALS

MIRACULOUS IZMINE HOOVES AND SUNBURN FREE -- My
quarter/appendix had very brittle hooves that were so bad that every year
when it dries out, they would crack and chip. Winter was different but still
very thin walls and brittle. I just thought it was the way he was. My farrier
and I are amazed at how thick they have become. I have done nothing at all
different, other than the
Dynamite & Izmine.  My farrier appointments have
always been 8 weeks apart but this last time the farrier and I just looked at
his hooves all the way around and couldn't believe how thick they were. I
told him immediately "it's the Dynamite products!"

Also, my paint had sunburn problems. We
    started using the izmine 4 scoops a day;
eventually he was brought down to 2 scoops a
day. He is much stronger and needs less
sunscreen. I was putting 45block on his entire
face, heavy on the nose, include nostrils, his
part in his mane and on his back. Poor guy.
I now put the 45block on his nose where it is really pink but I do not need
the block on his back or mane. I am not sure what causes this to help
sunburning but Izmine has really helped him. He also had cancer and has
been through much surgery.

My vet said that he came out of the surgery so fast due how healthy he
was that he was able to go home the same day - I did not have to pay the
overnight fees which saved me a bundle but also made me feel confident
that his diet is a major contributing factor to his recovery in all of this and
I must be doing the right thing. All around, feed is even less. I have
healthy, meaty horses who are very happy!

DYNAMITE TTO - A LITERAL LIFE-SAVER -- In March 2006, my Fell Pony
mare Newfarm Valencia sustained a puncture wound in her buttock. The
wound was 8” deep, parallel to the rectum, and we were fortunate to be in
close proximity to the best veterinary hospital in the state. Val was 8
months pregnant, and I was concerned both about Val’s health and
the health of the foal. Val was put on antibiotics immediately, and
for the first three weeks of hospitalization, she held her own. I
made sure she had her basic Dynamite supplements, plus a number
of immune system boosters and supplements to treat the side
effects of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The veterinarians flushed the wound regularly with a dilute
betadyne solution, and they ultrasounded the area every few days
to assess the progress of healing. As I was nearly four hours away,
I got daily phone updates regarding Val’s vital signs, and visited
once to twice a week. The vets found Val to be an ideal patient, cooperative
and definitely appreciative of all the attention. They found the ultrasound
regime particularly amusing, as they were probing rectally to the lip of the
pelvis, and Val’s foal would push their hand out of the pelvic canal, as if to
say, “there isn’t room in here for both of us!” I found these stories good
news, of course, as it told me the foal was not only alive but energetic.

At three weeks, Val took a sudden and noticeable turn for the worse. She
went septic and began to founder.  Her temperature rose, and she was
visibly a very sick pony. She was put back on intravenous antibiotics, and the
veterinarian’s suggested the wound be cultured to make sure the treatment
was appropriate to the infection. I heartily agreed, and after the
veterinarians delayed a few days, I finally got them to culture the wound.
The results came back a few days later still, showing that the infection was
antibiotic resistant. Her prognosis was only a 50% chance of survival.

After consulting with my up-line Rowan Emrys, I took a step that is very
unusual for me. I demanded that the veterinarians stop what they were
doing and implement a different protocol for puncture wound treatment using
Dynamite Tea Tree Oil for flushing the wound instead of Betadyne. I was
extremely uncomfortable interfering with the veterinarians, but they
appeared to be stymied, and Val’s life and that of her foal were on the line.
With the help of regular pep talks from Rowan, I pushed for what I
wanted.

I had to sign a release before the new protocol was started.
Tea Tree Oil
(Melaleuca alternifolia) is a natural antiseptic and anti-fungal oil.
Dynamite’
s Tea Tree Oil (TTO
) is extracted from grafted trees that ensure a
consistent and pure product with an ideal terpinen:cineol ratio.  I can smell
the difference between
Dynamite’s TTO and other brands that I have
purchased.

Within three days of the first flush using
TTO, Val’s vital signs indicated
improvement. When I next saw her, I could tell she was back on the road to
recovery. Unfortunately, the veterinarian in charge of her case decided that
the protocol should be stopped since Val was showing signs of recovery. I
was completely flabbergasted that the vet would quit a protocol that was
working. After three tense days between the vet and me, I checked Val out
of the hospital against the vet’s advice, another difficult step for me. I
began the flushing protocol at home.

To keep the rest of this story short, I’ll summarize: I kept up the daily
flushes until Val told me to quit. She gave birth to a healthy foal in June.
Last week, six months after she was wounded, a different vet examined her.
The wound has healed completely, and the lameness that I had noticed in
one hind leg has resolved.

I consider
Dynamite’s Tea Tree Oil to have saved Val’s life and that of her
foal and enabled a full recovery. For all of that, I am truly thankful.

Did you know?...   (from various sources)

  • Watch Your Fats -- A team of researchers at the University of North
Carolina, led by Dr. Xuemei Huang, has found what appears to be a link
between low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels and Parkinson's
Disease. In a study of 124 participants, the researchers found that patients
with low levels of LDL cholesterol were more than three and a half times as
likely to develop Parkinson's Disease as patients with higher LDL levels.
Their conclusion opened up the question as to whether or not “statins,” a
group of LDL cholesterol lowering drugs, may also be a risk factor for the
    disease.

  • Gates' Foundation has Questionable Investments -- Bill and Melinda
Gates are to lead a wholesale review of their investments, which could
lead to them shifting billions of dollars out of companies that are socially
irresponsible or harm human health. The announcement comes after a
major investigation by the Los Angeles Times discovered that some of the
billions spent by the Gates Foundation on improving health in the
developing world came from its investments in companies that caused
illness and disease through pollution and exploitation. The Los Angeles
Times estimated at least 41% of the foundation's assets came from
companies whose business operations were at odds with its philanthropic
work. They include BP, in which it had $295m of stock in 2005, and Royal
Dutch Shell, in which it has a $35m stake. The Gates Foundation has
invested $423m in some of the companies responsible for burning gas
flares in the Niger Delta: Eni, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil, Chevron and
Total. It has also invested $39m in Anglo American and $295m in BP, who
along with Shell are accused of air pollution at an oil refinery and a paper
mill near Durban, South Africa. And iIt has invested in a US healthcare firm
that is paying $1.5bn to settle cases of medical lapses and fraud, and
chocolate companies accused of profiting from child slave labour.

  • Cold Water Leads to Slowed Digestion -- It is nice to have a cup of cold
drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that
you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion because of
shutting down enzyme production. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid,
it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid
food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead
to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water, like the tea that both
the Chinese and Japanese drink, after a meal.

  • ADA says "NO" to Fluoridated Water Mixed in Baby Formula -- On
November 9, 2006, the American Dental Association "quietly" announced to
their members  that babies (one year and younger) must not be fed
fluoridated water mixed into their concentrated infant formula. But the ADA
has not alerted the public or the media. Only a couple of media outlets
found out on their own and reported it.

  • California 1st to Ban Dry-Cleaning Chemical -- The toxic solvent
perchloroethylene (tetrachloroethylene). Tetrachloroethylene is widely used
for dry-cleaning fabrics and metal degreasing operations. The main effects
of tetrachloroethylene in humans are neurological, liver, and kidney effects
following acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) inhalation exposure.
Adverse reproductive effects, such as spontaneous abortions, have been
reported from occupational exposure to tetrachloroethylene; however, no
definite conclusions can be made because of the limitations of the studies.
Results from epidemiological studies of dry-cleaners occupationally
exposed to tetrachloroethylene suggest increased risks for several types of
cancer.  Animal studies have reported an increased incidence of liver cancer
in mice, via inhalation and gavage (experimentally placing the chemical in
the stomach), and kidney and mononuclear cell leukemia in rats.  In the
mid-1980s, EPA considered the epidemiological and animal evidence on
tetrachloroethylene as intermediate between a probable and possible
human carcinogen (Group B/C). The Agency is currently reassessing its
    potential carcinogenicity.

  • Burning Incense Releases Cancer-Causing Chemicals -- A study
published in a September, 2001 issue of the Bulletin of Environmental
Contamination and Toxicology showed that air samples from inside and
outside of a temple in Taiwan were highly concentrated with a group of
cancer-causing chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
One PAH called benzopyrene, which is linked to lung cancer in smokers,
was found to be 45 times more concentrated in the temple than in homes
where people smoked cigarettes. The researchers also looked at total
suspended particles (TSPs), a measurement that reflects the total weight
of small and potentially harmful airborne pollutants that all of us are
exposed to on an ongoing basis. They found that TSPs inside the temple
was three times higher than it was at a local traffic intersection, and 11
times higher than just outside the temple. Put another way, they found
that a steady volume of incense burning can create more harmful air
pollution than that found at a typical traffic intersection.

Point to Ponder #1 -  C is for Chocolate by Ralph Moss,
Ph.D.
       The Moss Report http://cancerdecisions.com

The Aztec King Tezozomoc of Azoapotzalco regarded chocolate as a divine
substance: he offered distinguished guests cocoa in a tortoise shell that was
highly polished and ornamented with gold arabesques. Early on, chocolate
developed a reputation as an aphrodisiac. Montezuma  is said to have drunk
chocolate before entering his harem. The famous botanist Carl Linnaeus got
to name the plant and with great perspicacity called it Theobroma cacao,
food for the gods. Most of us like chocolate, but some of us (especially
women) crave it so much that they are virtually addicted. There may be a
biological basis for this.

First let's get our terms straight. The plant is called cacao, a word derived
from the Aztec word "cacahuatl." This is an evergreen tropical American tree
that bears leathery ten-ribbed fruits on the trunk and older branches. Cocoa
powder is made from cacao seeds, which have been fermented, roasted,
shelled, ground and freed of most of its fat. Cocoa is also the name of the
beverage made by mixing this powder with hot water or milk. In North
America and Europe, we always mix this powder with a sweetener, usually
sugar. But the word  cacahuatl meant "bitter
water" (from xococ, bitter + atl, water). One can gradually cultivate a taste
for less sweet forms of chocolate. Even today, Mexicans prize chocolate as
an unsweetened food and use it in their famous chicken dish, mole poblano.

Most people assume that anything that tastes so darn good just has to be
bad for you. But according to Karon Harder, a clinical dietitian at Northwest
Texas Health Care System, "chocolate can be healthy when it's part of a
varied diet. It's not that chocolate is bad for you," she says. "But what's
added to chocolate isn't that good."

A report in January of 2002 from France showed that certain substances in
cocoa powder inhibit 70 percent of cancer cells during a critical phase of their
growth cycle. Japanese researchers have shown that tiny amounts of a cacao
bean extract (called polycaphenol) are more toxic to human tumor cells than
to normal cells. In some regards polycaphenol was even more effective than
vitamin C. Pretreatment of mice with polycaphenol also protected them from
lethal E. coli infections.

In 2001, the eminent food researcher John Weisburger, PhD, concluded: "The
cocoa bean, and tasty products derived from the cocoa bean such as
chocolate, and the beverage cocoa, popular with many people world-wide, is
rich in specific antioxidants."

The regular intake of such products, he continued, would increase the level
of antioxidants, prevent the oxidation of "bad" LDL cholesterol, and probably
prevent heart disease. "It would seem reasonable to suggest inhibition of
the several phases of the complex processes leading to cancer," Weisburger
said.

The darker the chocolate, the better it is for you, according to Prof. Joe
Vinson of the University of Scranton. Weight for weight, he said, milk
chocolate has twice as many antioxidants as blueberries and dark chocolate
has five times as many. And cocoa powder contains twice as much
antioxidants as dark chocolate and is almost devoid of fat.

Chocolate may also be good for your heart and digestion. In 2001 a number
of researchers at the University of California, Davis found that chocolate
inhibits the clumping of platelets. "Cocoa consumption had an aspirin-like
effect," they wrote. Cocoa butter is mainly stearic triglyceride, which is less
well absorbed than other fats, and is excreted. Thus, cocoa butter has a
minimal effect on serum cholesterol.

I am not advocating an unrelenting diet of chocolate bars, which contain nine
grams of fat per ounce and also sugar, cream, saturated fats and other less
desirable things. There is a way to avoid the bad stuff by making your own
cocoa drink. Start with organic cocoa powder and mix it with hot water to
make a paste. Then add more hot water or low-fat milk and sweeten with a
little honey. The resulting drink is quite delicious. It also might fight cancer
and heart disease -- not a bad combination for a substance that not long ago
was relegated to the "junk food" category.

Chocolate is very complex. It contains phenylethylamine, an amphetamine-
like substance  that selectively elevates some brain chemicals that are
associated with pleasure. Other chemicals in chocolate have the ability to
bind to cannabinoid receptors in the brain, mimicking the effects of
marijuana. There may be something to the old folk tale that chocolate is an
aphrodisiac.

Chocolate may also have some negative effects, particularly in migraine
sufferers and among women with severe PMS. It may increase kidney stone
formation in those who are prone to that painful disease. Recently, two
Arizona researchers wrote a paper asking whether chocolate was a food or a
drug. So who knows? Perhaps sometime soon the FDA will reclassify this
substance and you will have to apply for an Investigative New Drug (IND)
number just to get a chocolate bar.

...... for all those who consider chocolate to be an essential nutrient, you
might consider checking out the new Dagoba Apothecary line of 74% cacao
chocolate bars and elixirs that add a variety of "beneficial botanicals" to the
organic chocolate. They advise 1 oz per day of the bar and 3 drops/3x daily
of the elixirs!

Point to Ponder #2 - Stay Younger: Skip the Coffee &
Use Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
by Victoria at www.DayZines.com

All of us know that stress ages us quickly. And for those of you that still
think you need caffeine to keep going, in time, stress and caffeine contribute
to adrenal exhaustion. When this happens, important hormones are depleted
and you will end up highly fatigued.

Caffeine accelerates aging by impairing immunity, which occurs through the
elevation of stress hormones, nutrition depletion, and depression of DHEA.
According to Stephen Chernisek, author of "Caffeine Blues," caffeine also
does the following in the body:

    1. Raises blood sugar levels and disrupts sugar-regulating effect of
    insulin

    2. Raises fatty acid levels in the blood

    3. Raises homocysteine levels, which greatly increases the diabetic's
    risk for cardiovascular disease

    4. Causes vascular resistance (circulation is reduced)

    5. And caffeine raises stress hormone levels which is a primary risk
    factor for diabetes

Get rid of caffeine if you are serious about preserving your youth and having
long term health.

Apple cider vinegar has been highly regarded throughout history. In 400 B.C.
the great Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine used it for it's cleansing,
healing, nurturing and energizing qualities. Raw apple cider vinegar is a
naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic and
fights germs and bacteria.

* The claims that many make about apple cider vinegar are that it will give
you a stronger,
longer, healthier life.

* Other miraculous claims about apple cider vinegar...

* Helps maintain a youthful and vibrant body

* Helps fight germs and bacteria naturally

* Helps retard the onset of old age in humans, pets and farm animals

* Helps regulate calcium metabolism

* Helps keep blood the right consistency

* Helps regulate women's menstruation

* Helps normalize the urine, thus counteracting the frequent urge to urinate

* Helps digestion and assimilation

* Helps relieve sore throats, laryngitis and throat tickles and cleans out
toxins

* Helps sinus, asthma and flu sufferers to breathe easier and more naturally

* Helps maintain healthy skin, soothes sunburn

* Helps prevent itching scalp, dry hair and baldness, and banishes dandruff

* Helps fight arthritis and removes toxins and crystals from joints, tissues
and organs

* Helps control and normalize weight (if used in conjunction with a healthy
eating plan)

When using apple cider vinegar, make sure to get raw organic vinegar, with
the mother still in it. Vinegar that has been pasteurized does not produce
the same results. . . .

Most people take 1/2 to 1 teaspoons per day, either straight or in 8 oz of
pure water . . . an individual take an apple cider vinegar "cocktail" three
times a day for maximum results: 1 to 2 teaspoons of organic raw apple
cider vinegar mixed with 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw honey in a glass of distilled
water.

It is said that Helen of Troy bathed regularly in vinegar. You can give your
beautiful body the same treatment by adding apple cider vinegar to your
bath. Vinegar should not be used directly on the skin, but when properly
diluted will make an excellent "sour bath" that removes
dry flaky skin and restores skin's natural acid balance. Add a cup of vinegar
to your bathwater and see how your skin glows.

....... we have long suggested more alkaline diets as the base of good
health, and coffee is about as ACID as you can get! Rather than coffee and
soft drinks, why not start substituting fresh veggie juice? Freeze it into ice
cubes (or the new tube) trays and add to your daily water. For hot
beverages, offer yourself herbal teas (no, not Morning Thunder!), miso or
even some organic chicken broth that comes handily boxed? Raw Apple Cider
Vinegar is also a great alkalizer. One of the finest available is
Dynamite
Super ACV

Point to Ponder #3 - Heart Attacks and Women
from the internet - thanks Nancy!

Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the
left arm hurting.
  • Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line - you may never have the first
chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
  • Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
  • 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not
    wake up

IF YOU'RE ALONE:
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help,
the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint,
has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, such
individuals can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.
A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be
deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.
A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-
up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze
the heart and keep the blood circulating The squeezing pressure on the heart
also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get
to a hospital.

..... it's best to guard against heart attacks in the first place by eating a
more alkalised diet, consuming plenty of Omega 3 fatty acids while avoiding
over-use of Omega 6 such as found in vegetable oils, and taking the
Dynamite foundational products of Elixir, Dynamite or Plus and TriMins.

Point to Ponder #4 - Heartburn Medications & the
Fluoride Connection Plus the Possible Role of Fluoride in
Equine Laminitis

This is an email from a woman named Cathy Justus in reply to my January
Newsletter. Cathy lost 5 top Quarter Horses to fluorosis before it was
diagnosed and has since made it her life's work to bring awareness of the
dangers of fluoride to others. If you have further questions, please contact
her at her email address below.

Dear Rowan,

Great newsletter.  I read with interest all articles.  I do, however, have
something to add to the article on depression and osteoporosis.  Fluoxetine
(Prozac) is made with fluoride.  That is where the fluo in the beginning of the
name comes from.  It has been proven for many years that fluoride increases
bone density and amount.  In fact it makes bones harder and crystalline and
that is why it also increases pressure fractures and cracking and chipping of
teeth.  That is also why it increases osteoporosis or as Dr. Krook from
Cornell University, that diagnosed all my horses as having "chronic fluoride
poisoning", calls mosaic bone.  You can see the increase in bone mass in the
peer reviewed manuscript in the Jan/Feb 2006 issue of the Quarterly Journal
of the International Society for Fluoride Research.  www.fluorideresearch.org
then go to back issues, then go to the Jan/March 2006 issue, then go to the
manuscript by Dr. Lennart Krook/Cathy Justus and see the actual x-rays.  I
also, in the 17 page autopsy report from Dr. Krook, have a photo of one of
Baby Doe's cannon bone split down the center that shows how fluoride-
apetite (that has replace the calcium apatite in the bone) is taking over the
bone marrow (decreasing the immune system) inside the bone and increasing
bone mass on the outside of the bone.

Another point to make with fluoride is that Baby Doe (Perfectlydun Bonanza),
the first mare of mine to be positively diagnosed with "chronic fluoride
poisoning" was diagnosed with laminitis after death in her autopsy by Dr.
Krook at Cornell University.  She had never had a shoe on and had regular
natural barefoot maintenance all her life.  In the autopsy Dr. Krook made
mention of fluoride "possibly" being the culprit in the amount of laminitis in
horses these days.  The second horse in Pagosa Springs that was autopsied
by Dr. Krook at Cornell also had laminitis despite not yet showing lameness.
This second horse was not mine.  The third horse diagnosed, not mine, also
had laminitis although not lame yet but had severe back problems.  The
fourth  horse autopsied was my horse.  She had gone far past laminitis to
the point that the hoof almost wasn't recognizable and turned up like elf's
shoes.  This was described years ago in cattle with fluoride poisoning by Dr.
Krook.  Referring to the above paragraph telling how fluoride makes the
bones and teeth more crystalline, this mare's hooves were so hard they
couldn't be trimmed with nippers.  They had to be filed some everyday with
very good files to be able to get even minute amounts of hoof off.

Just thought you may want to hear more of the story behind what is normally
reported.

Thanks again for the newsletter.  Knowledge is Power!

Sincerely,  Cathy
justusoriginals@pagosa.net

....... for those of you wanting to remove fluoride from your drinking water,
the only filtration/cleansing process that can accomplish this is a reverse
osmosis device. Distilled water such as produced by RO, is extremely
advantageous for short-term detoxing, but for long-term regular
consumption, it is extremely wise to replace beneficial minerals expunged
from such water by adding a daily dose of
Dynamite Elixir to your water.

Point to Ponder #5 - Beware Of Polyvinyl Chloride, A
Highly Toxic Plastic Found In Many Household Products
By Dr. Ben Kim
         http://drbenkim.com/pvc-plastic-dangers.html

Polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC or vinyl, is arguably one of the most
toxic types of plastic in our lives. One reason why PVC is so toxic is that it is
often mixed with softening chemicals called plasticizers, the most well
known variety being phalates.  Exposure to PVC and the plasticizers that
often come with it have been strongly associated with an increased risk of
developing the following conditions:
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Reproductive and developmental problems
  • Allergies in children
  • Brain cancer
  • Hardening of connective tissue throughout the body, also called
    scleroderma
  • A malignant tumor arising from tubules that are near the gall bladder
and liver, also called a cholangiocarcinoma
  • A malignant tumor arising from a blood vessel, also called an
    angiosarcoma

Furthermore, the processes of manufacturing PVC and burning waste PVC are
known to create dioxins. Even at very low levels of exposure, dioxins have
been linked to:
  • Endometriosis
  • Immune system dysfunction
  • Reproductive problems
  • Many different types of cancer

Dioxin production of any amount is a threat to the entire world because
dioxins can travel long distances and persist in the environment. Due to the
number of concerns that surround the use of PVC, some governments around
the world officially discourage its use:
  • The Netherlands and Germany are the most prominent countries to take
    this position.
  • Four prominent groups - the Environmental Protection Agency, the
National Toxicology Program, the National Institute of Occupational
Safety and Health, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer
    - agree that PVC is one of 52 chemicals that are confirmed to cause
    cancer in humans.

If the health and environmental risks associated with PVC are so well
documented, why does it continue to be a major part of the global economy?
Because it is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and can be adapted for
so many everyday uses. Simply put, PVC is one of the premier cash cows of
the chemical industry.

How can you identify products that are made with PVC? Most are marked
with its resin identification code, as shown here. For products that are not
marked with a resin identification code, the only way to find out whether it is
made with PVC or not is to ask the manufacturer directly.

Another way to identify the presence of PVC is to look out for soft, malleable
plastic. Packaging (including some varieties of cling-wrap), toys, clothing,
and bed linens are common products that can come with PVC-laden
malleable plastic. Other common products that are usually made with PVC
include:
  • Personal care products such as soap, shampoo, deodorants, fragrances,
    hair spray, and nail polish
  • Vinyl siding on homes and buildings
  • Plumbing fixtures
  • Flexible hoses and tubing
  • Flooring
  • Roofing membranes
  • Insulation for electrical cable and wires
  • Magnetic stripe cards
  • Materials used to cushion and cover furniture
  • Pipelines in the water and sewage industries
  • Adhesives
  • Detergents
  • Lubricating oils
  • Solvents
  • Automotive plastics
  • Plastic clothing

For parents who are concerned with PVC in children's toys, it is best to use
toys that are manufactured by the following brands that refuse to incorporate
PVC into their products:
  • Evenflo
  • Gerber
  • Lego
  • Tiny Love
  • Chicco
  • International Playthings
  • Primetime
  • Early Start
  • Sassy
  • Thomas

Discovery Toys and Manhattan Baby also provide a variety of toys that are
free of PVC; they also have some toys that are made with PVC, so it is wise
to do a thorough check before purchasing these brands.

Another safe option for toys is to choose varieties that are made with
certified sustainable wood or organic cotton. Companies that specialize in
such toys are:
  • Lamaze
  • Melissa & Doug
  • Thomas and Woodkits
  • Brio

Clearly, it is extremely difficult to live without any plastic products in our
homes and workplaces. What follows are some sensible guidelines* that can
help to reduce our exposure to plastic, particularly those that are made with
PVC:
  • Use glass containers and bottles rather than plastic ones.
  • When wrapping foods for storage or to take out, avoid plastic cling wrap.
  • Cellulose bags, wax paper, and butcher paper are better choices.
  • Glass or stainless steel containers are even better.
  • Whenever possible, buy food and supplies in bulk to reduce the amount
    of packaging that is consumed.
  • Whenever possible, choose packaging materials that are easily recycled.
Paper, glass, and metal cans are good choices.
  • Purchase recycled paper.
  • Take cloth bags to shop to reduce the need for plastic bags.
  • At the grocery store, try not to use thin, transparent plastic bags for
each item or bunch of produce.
  • Several fruits and vegetables can be carried out of the store in one or
    two bags, preferably cotton ones.
  • Bring non-plastic containers to cafeterias, salad bars, and other places
that typically use plastic containers to serve their food on.
  • Use stainless steel utensils. Plastic utensils should be avoided
whenever possible since they have to repeatedly come into contact with
    our mouths.
  • If a microwave must be utilized, never use it to cook food that is in
    contact with plastic cling wrap.

Ultimately, one fact is clear: our generation is being exposed to many
dangerous chemicals that previous generations were not burdened with. A
study that was recently released by Environmental Defence, a Canadian
advocacy group, indicates that Canadian children have higher levels of 68
chemicals found in consumer products in their bodies than their parents do.

Making the effort to incorporate some of the guidelines listed above into our
daily lives is undoubtedly a wise investment of our time and resources.

*Guidelines on how to reduce our exposure to plastic are from www.cbc.ca.

.

Menu of the Month - A Heart Healthy Meal
The best thing you can do for heart health is to decrease those vegetable
oils so high in Omega 6 fatty acids and eat more Omega 3's found mainly in
fatty fish, high Omega eggs and grass-fed meats. That's along with a diet
high in phytochemicals, of course! Here's a special Heart Healthy Meal to
make for your loved one.

Caesar Salad -- Use 1 head of Romaine lettuce per person - only the soft,
center portion. Wash and dry very thoroughly. Whisk together in order until
smooth: 2 egg yolks, 2T Dijon mustard, 2 anchovy fillets, 1T minced garlic, 1
tsp Worcestershire sauce and 1T red wine vinegar. Slowly add 1/4 cup
sunflower seed or avocado oil; when fully incorporated add 1/4 tsp @ fresh
lemon juice, NTM Salt, & fresh ground pepper. Toss with romaine until all
leaves glisten and add about 1/8 cup freshly grated Reggiano Parmesan
cheese per person; toss again and serve.

Grilled Salmon Steak -- Provide 1 1" thick steak per person. Mix together
some olive oil, minced garlic, minced parsley and dill and rub each steak with
mixture. Grill skin side down first  for about 3-4 minutes; turn over and grill
about 3 minutes for medium rare where the outside is nicely browned and
the inside is just barely translucent. TO BROIL: place about 4" from heat

Mushroom Walnut Pilaf -- In med saucepan over high heat, bring 1 1/4 cups
quinoa & 2 1/2 cups water to boil; reduce to med, cover & cook for 12
minutes or until tender; remove from heat and let sit 5 min. Meanwhile,
sauté in 1-2T coconut oil, 1 diced onion and 1/2# sliced or chopped
mushrooms about 5 min or until softened; stir in 1/2 cup broth and 2T fresh
lemon juice for about 5 minutes; stir in cooked quinoa. When heated
through, remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup chopped fresh scallions, 1/2
cup pan toasted walnuts and salt/pepper to taste.

Grilled or Broiled/Roast Seasonal Vegetables -- Clean whatever fresh,
local vegetables that are available and cut them to approximately equal size.
Toss with a bit of Macadamia nut oil, bit of minced garlic or garlic powder,
NTM Salt and fresh ground pepper and place on grill, under a broiler or in a
350 oven for 20-30 minutes.

ChocoBan Pudding -- With a fork, mash one very ripe banana for each
individual. Add a drop or two of vanilla extract and some organic cocoa
powder (to taste). Mix well and enjoy this heart-healthy comfort food! If
desired for more sweetness, add 1-2 minced dates.

Words of Wisdom .... Love & Family     (Thank you, Wanda!)

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."

He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."
