Did you know?... (from various sources)
compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!" Point to Ponder #1 - Experts finally recognize the dangers with soy. http://www.mercola. com/2006/feb/7/experts_finally_recognize_the_dangers_with_soy. htm Considering the growing number of studies regarding the harm you can do to your body by eating non-fermented soy, it's not completely surprising that the conventional medical establishment may finally be getting it ... In addition to the complete lack of benefits with regard to cholesterol, the AHA review also found that, contrary to some popular myths: Soy isoflavones don't prevent various forms of cancer (prostate, breast or uterine). Neither soy protein nor soy isoflavones are useful in limiting menopause-related symptoms. The jury remains out on any soy-related benefits in treating osteoporosis. A telling quote by a noted cardiologist that speaks volumes about soy's true worth: "If [patients] are radically altering their diet, where they're only eating soy in the hopes that this is going to bring their cholesterol down, they're deluding themselves." In fact, non-fermented soy products contain a number of potentially health-disrupting "anti-nutrients", such as phytic acid. You would be wisest to avoid any such foods, which include:
levels of the dangerous components of soy, and also aids in liberating otherwise difficult to digest nutrients in the soybean, making them more available for absorption. Fermented soy products (such as miso, soy sauce, natto, and tempeh) are therefore safe to eat. However, don't expect "miracle cures" for your cholesterol even from safe soy foods and can certainly be part of a healthy diet. If you really want to lower your cholesterol levels, there are two primary strategies that work well over 99 percent of the time if properly implemented. They are:
effectively lower insulin levels, as elevated insulin levels are one of the primary drivers for raising cholesterol. Point to Ponder #2 - Flu Drugs Don't Work www. mercola.com - Feb 4, 2006 A study indicates that Tamiflu and Relenza, the two antiviral flu drugs intended to be lynchpin of the world-wide defense against the flu, are ineffective against seasonal flu outbreaks, and may not be sufficient to combat an epidemic or pandemic. The study suggested additional measures such as masks, gowns, gloves, quarantine and hand washing should an epidemic occur. Tamiflu's maker, Roche, disagreed with the study's findings, and recommended that Tamiflu should still be used even for seasonal influenza. The flu has increasingly become a concern worldwide as the possibility of an avian flu pandemic has loomed in the public mind. Vaccines have traditionally been the first line of defense against seasonal flu, but antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu and Relenza have been used with greater and greater frequency. Their use, however, is potentially problematic; both Tamiflu and Relenza, for example, actually increase viral shedding from the nose, which could worsen a pandemic. Forbes. com January 19, 2006 The Lancet January 19, 2006 . . . .so what to do? BUILD YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM by avoiding sugar and other toxins in your food by only consuming REAL FOOD; take your Dynamite basic supplements plus Hiscorbadyne and even SOD if your immune system is challenged; remove the heavy metal toxins from your system (from general living and past vaccine use) with NCD so your body can finally become healthy; and something very simple.....wash your hands with Dynamite Shampoo! Point to Ponder #3 - EPA Calls For Teflon Chemical Ban http://www.mercola. com/2006/feb/7/epa_calls_for_teflon_chemical_ban.htm The EPA has asked eight manufacturers to cease production of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a suspected carcinogen used in the making of Teflon. The manufacturers have been requested to reduce PFOA production 95 percent by 2010, and stop using it altogether by 2015. PFOA is currently used to make water- and grease-proof products, including microwave popcorn bags, non-stick cookware, and upholstery. It is found in the blood of upwards of 95 percent of Americans, and it has been linked to cancer in animal studies. DuPont, which has announced it will comply with the voluntary guidelines, has been the focus of the investigations into the risks of PFOA. The company has paid over $16 million for fines and other payments in the wake of charges that it had hidden information about the dangers of PFOA. USA Today January 26, 2006 Dr. Mercola's Comment:. . . .Considering all the bad news stemming from DuPont's negligent behavior regarding PFOA, this sounds like a great idea, right? But, here's the catch: This cutback is completely voluntary, according to the Environmental Working Group, because the Toxic Substances Control Ban doesn't give the EPA the authority to enact a ban. Hard to believe a chemical flowing through the bloodstreams of nearly every U.S. citizen and tied to so many common household products can't be legally banned by a federal agency like the EPA, but it's true. Of course, there are less toxic alternatives, including a similar chemical made of four carbon atoms instead of the eight found in PFOA, that don't accumulate in your body under consideration. Of course, manufacturers like DuPont could have switched to those alternatives long ago -- but they didn't, being as usual more concerned with their profit than your well-being. Even if PFOA is phased out over the course of a decade, you need to take the situation into your own hands. The first step is to toss out every pan in your house that has Teflon on it. The moment you heat the pan it starts to vaporize and this toxic chemical will go into your bloodstream. It took me a few years to become convinced [of Teflon's dangers], but once you are aware of this truth you simply have no logical choice but to throw those pans out and never buy another one. Do not leave them in your home or you will be tempted to use them. Please believe me; I am absolutely convinced they are very dangerous and you should not be exchanging the convenience for the health damage. For the sake of your health and that of your family, you should enact a Teflon ban in your home on both cookware and contaminated paper products such as the paper bags of microwave popcorn you thought were safe. Point to Ponder #4 - 18 Tricks to Teach Your Body http://health.msn.com/menshealth/articlepage.aspx?cp- documentid=100119940 1. If your throat tickles, scratch your ear; it stimulates a reflex muscle spasm that will relieve the itch 2. Your ears hear differently: use your right ear to follow the rapid rhythms of speech and your left ear to pick up musical tones. 3. When you have to pee and there is no handy bathroom, fantasizing about sex preoccupies your brain lessening bladder discomfort. 4. Lessen injection pain by coughing; this causes a sudden, temporary rise in pressure in the chest and spinal canal, inhibiting the pain-conducting structures of the spinal cord. 5. Clear your stuffed nose by alternately thrusting your tongue against the roof of your mouth, and then pressing between your eyebrows with one finger; this moves the vomer bone (deep inside your head) to rock that will start to drain your sinuses in about 20 seconds. 6. To lessen acid reflux at night, try raising the head of your bed a few inches or sleep on your left side: this allows the stomach to be lower than the esophagus so acid cannot back up as easily. 7. For a toothache that comes on at night or over the weekend when you cannot get to a dentist, rub ice on the back of your hand on the V-shaped webbed area between your thumb and index finger to stimulate nerves in the brain that blocks pain signals from the face and hands. 8. When you accidentally singe your finger on the stove, clean the skin and apply light pressure with the finger pads of your unmarred hand; ice will relieve your pain more quickly, but since your finger pressure brings the burned skin back to a normal temperature, the skin is less likely to blister. 9. If feeling dizzy, placing your nerve-sensitive hand on a stable surface helps your brain to stabilize fast. 10. A stitch in your side when running is caused by exhaling as your right foot hits the ground which places a downward pressure on your liver which then tugs at the diaphragm and creates a side stitch; to avoid this, exhale as your left foot strikes the ground. 11. Since most nose bleeds come from the septum, the cartilage wall that divides the nose, pressing hard on your upper gums just behind the small dent below your nose will stop it; you can press through yur skin or put some cotton between your gum and lip and press on that. 12. If your heart starts to race, blowing on your thumb activates the vagus nerve which governs heart rate. 13. Have an ice cream headache? (No, NEVER!!!) Pressing your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, covering as much area with as much pressure as you can relieve it quickly. 14. Poor distance vision is rarely caused by genetics, but rather by near-point stress; every few hours during the day, close your eyes, tense your entire body including your butt and biceps, take a deep breath, and, after a few seconds, release your breath and muscles at the same time - this can trick involuntary muscles— like the eyes—into relaxing as well. 15. A tingly, "sleeping" hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in your neck; loosening your neck muscles by gently rocking your head from side to side releases the pressure. Legs and feet require walking around. 16. You can prove that a misaligned spine can affect the body: Have a person hold one arm straight out to the side, palm down, and instruct him to maintain this position. Then place two fingers on his wrist and push down. He'll resist. Now have him put one foot on a surface that's a half inch higher (a few magazines) and repeat. This time his arm will drop right down! 17. You can increase your ability to stay underwater by hyperventilating before diving; since it is acidic blood caused by the buildup of carbon dioxide which signals the brain that something is wrong, taking several short breaths lowers blood aciidity allowing you more time underwater. 18. If you want to memorize something, review it just before falling asleep; most memory consolidation, encoding it to long- term memory, happens during sleep Meetings - open to any and all DYNAMITE Distributors and guests! Dress with Raspberry Vinaigrette: place 6oz fresh raspberries (or frozen/thawed/drained) in a blender with 1/3 cup water & 1/4 cup SACV vinegar; purée until smooth. With the blender running on low speed, pour in 1/3 cup extra vigin olive oil slowly, until the mixture is somewhat thick and creamy. Check the seasoning and add salt as needed. If the raspberries are not sweet, you may need to add a bit of honey to balance the tart flavors. Strain to remove any seeds. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to use. Hearty Irish Beef Stew - Heat 1/4 cup macademia nut oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add 1 1/2# cubed beef/bison and sauté until brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add 6 cloves minced garlic and sauté 1 minute. Add 4 cups beef stock, 1 bottle Guniness Stout, 2T tomato paste, 1T honey, 1 tsp thyme, 1T Worcestershire sauce and 2 bay leaves. Stir to combine. Bring mixture to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, then cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, melt 2T butter in another large pot over medium heat. Add 1 1/2# cubed potatoes, 1 large chopped onion and 2 cups sliced carrots. Sauté vegetables until golden, about 20 minutes - this step gives the stew its special taste. Add vegetables to beef stew. Simmer uncovered until vegetables and beef are very tender, about 40 minutes. Discard bay leaves. Can be prepared up to 2 days ahead then cool slightly, refrigerate uncovered until cold, then cover and refrigerate. Bring to simmer before serving. Serve sprinkled with fresh chopped parsley. Kiwi Sorbet - rather labor intensive but what a delicious green dessert! In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 2/3 cups Rapadura (a raw sugar) and 1.5 cups water and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer the syrup for 5 minutes. Let cool, then chill for 2 hours. Meanwhile, in a blender, puree 6 peeled kiwifruits just until smooth (do not overblend or the seeds will break up and make the puree bitter); combine 2 cups kiwi puree, 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice, 12 fresh/chopped mint leaves and cold syrup and stir to combine. Pour into a shallow metal baking pan and freeze until icy, about 4 hours. Process in a food processor or beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Add 1 egg white and process or beat until fluffy. Refreeze until firm, about 4 hours, then beat again. Pack the sorbet into a container and freeze completely, 4 hours more. Serve in chilled glasses, garnished with lemon zest and sliced kiwifruits. Words of Wisdom ... TWO POTS thanks Lorraine!!! An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do. After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."
