"They have plundered the world, stripping naked the land in
their hunger, they loot even the ocean:
they are driven by greed, if their enemy be rich;
by ambition, if poor;
neither the wealth of the east nor the west can satisfy them:
they are the only people who behold wealth and indigence
with equal passion to dominate.
They ravage, they slaughter, they seize by false pretenses,
and all of this they hail as the construction of empire.
And when in their wake nothing remains but a desert,
they call that peace."

  • Sprig Toys - Tired of cheap toys from overseas that break almost as
fast as they're given? How about switching over to some modern, kid-
driven (NO batteries!) toys made from recycled materials right here in
the US? In fact, the company came together right here in Fort Collins
CO. Chris Clemmer and five business partners left jobs as toy designers
and consultants for toy giants, such as Mattel and Fisher Price, to create
their own toy company focused on putting the imagination back into
toys and being better for the environment. Sprig toys run off "kid power"
    - pump the back of the vehicles up and down to create power to light
Adventure Guides Violet Rio's and Pelly Bay's LED lamps on their
helmets. Each figure comes with a story, such as Miki Flinders' Outback
Journey, which help jumpstart children's creativity. Imagination is key
for these simply-designed toys, the team says. While the Guides and
vehicles have fun shapes and colors, they are intentionally left plain to
help the child use imagination and create the story. "It lets the kids
interpret," Bowen said. "We're trying to give back some of that
    imagination." Learn more at http://www.sprigtoys.com.

Raisins are DEADLY for dogs
There has been an email circulating on the internet since 2004. Reader
Karla G. has just alerted me to it again. PLEASE read the truth about just
how deadly raisins, grapes, chocolate, onions and macadamia nuts can be
for dogs on this Snopes link:

Thoughts on Horse Slaughter
While most of us are rightly shocked at the way slaughter horses are so
seriously mishandled, this notice from Patrice S. reminds us that there are
always two sides to every story. If you are concerned, please read the
link,
http://www.pleasurehorse.com/pub_Details.cfm (if necessary,
scroll down on yellow article menu on the right side of the page to "If
Congress manages to block all routes to slaughter for horses..."  Of
course, as with any animal slaughter, totally humane management is a
must. And I have to ask, "Is that even possible?"

YouTube Video on Flouride-Poisoned Horses - If horses, and dogs,
can die from flouridated water, what is happening to our kids and
ourselves?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9RXfOuylWo
Cathy Justus (long-time readers will recognize her name as the lady who
lost both horses and dogs to flouridated water) e-mailed me saying:
What you see in these horses, and horror stories told, we endured over 20
years of artificial fluoridation in our small town. These ailments and
deaths are not just what fluoride does to horses. Everything seen here
has been scientifically proven to be happening to people who consume or
absorb fluoride and their pets too. We have been lied to for over 60 years
and it is high time this mass medication without regard for age, weight,
medical problems or allergy is halted once and for all.

To read the two peer reviewed and published manuscripts written on our
horse/fluoride story go to www.fluorideresearch.org Jan/March 2006 issue
by Krook/Justus. Be sure to read the editorial also by Dr. Burgstahler. The
second peer reviewed manuscript is in the April/June 2006 issue. Please
don't believe the lie that fluoride and fluoridation is "safe and effective"
as we have been told. On the periodic table of hallogens it is just
slightly less poisonous than arsenic and more poisonous than lead and
cumulative like lead. This is true science not arguable by either side of
the issue.

This is a matter of life and death. I know this first hand.
Blessings, Cathy

Cramps & Aspartame
Leg and/or foot cramps at night have traditionally been "cured" by adding
a good mineral supplement high in magnesium (Izmine, anyone?) to the
supplement program. However, Sumner, a TNL reader, cured his by
removing aspartame from his diet. It seems the more known toxins and
man-made garbage sold as "food" that we remove from our diets, and the
more we return to Real Foods the way nature intended, the healthier we
become.

"For more than 40 years I would awake every night with foot and leg
cramps. I would get up out of bed, stand on my tip toes and the pain
would go away. Doctors that I visited had no remedy or explanation for
these cramps. About 35 years ago, I went to a foot specialist. He
prescribed some custom shoes but that didn't help.

For all these years, I would drink 2 to 3 diet Pepsies and about four
packets of aspartame with tea. An internet search for "Harmful effects
of aspartame" revealed that there were many and some improprieties in
its passing FDA.

About a month ago, I decided to cut out artificial sweeteners. The very
next day, I awoke and remarked that I didn't have any foot cramps during
the night and haven't had any since. I related the experience to my
doctor. He was quite interested and said that he would keep it in mind."

Did You Know?...   (from various sources)

  • The importance of L-carnitine - L-carnitine, a key amino acid found
only in meat, chicken, fish and dairy products, is responsible for a
number of important functions including delivering omega-3 fatty acids
to cell mitochondria, helping protect cells from damage – especially
heart cells, raising the levels of enzymes needed to metabolize
carbohydrates, helping boost cellular energy and helping maintain
muscle strength. But there are two problems associated with L-
carnitine: 1) The body only absorbs about a quarter of the L-carnitine
supplied by food, and 2) The body produces less L-carnitine as we age.
According to recent studies, two grams per day is considered minimally
    essential.

  • Cook your veggies! - Contrary to popular belief, Italian researchers
decided to discover the truth of raw veggies vs. cooked. For the
purposes of this study, they took three common Italian cooking
methods: boiling, steaming and frying. Next, they chose three
vegetables commonly used in Italian cooking: broccoli, carrots and
zucchini. They proceeded to boil, steam and fry those three vegetables
and then measure the effect of the cooking method on the nutritional
    content. Here's what they found:
  • Boiling: antioxidant levels were maintained
  • Steaming: the antioxidant levels were also maintained
  • Frying: there was a significant loss of antioxidants found in
comparison to the other two methods.
Specifically for broccoli, it was found that steaming those green
clusters can actually boost their level of glucosinolates that are
beneficial in fighting off cancer. [ed: If you wish to stay raw,
blending/pureeing makes almost all vegetables far more bio-
    available, too.]

  • Pharmaceutical truth - According to Dr. Marcia Angell, former editor-in-
chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, "The combined profits for
the ten drug companies in the Fortune 500 ($35.9 billion) were more
than the profits for all the other 490 businesses put together ($33.7
billion). Over the past two decades the pharmaceutical industry has
moved very far from its original high purpose of discovering and
producing useful new drugs. Now primarily a marketing machine to sell
drugs of dubious benefit, this industry uses its wealth and power to co-
opt every institution that might stand in its way, including the US
Congress, the FDA, academic medical centers, and the medical
    profession itself."

  • Truth about flu vaccines - Among reports that this year's flu season
started out earlier and was harsher than normal, the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that this year's flu
vaccine had "no or low effectiveness" against influenza or influenza-like
illness. Depending on how the data was analyzed, the vaccine protected
from zero percent to 14 percent of study participants. People are dying
from the flu not because they didn't get their annual flu shot, but
because they are already sick and have compromised immune systems.
Therefore, the ultimate treatment for the flu is straightforward proactive
prevention. Vitamins A, B6, C and E and the minerals zinc, iron, copper
and selenium are critical for maintaining the integrity of the immune
system as are a colorful variety of organically grown fruits and
vegetables to ensure that you are getting all of the necessary nutrients.
Healthy fats are also essential to your cells' ability to function properly.
Omega 3 fatty acids actually help to strengthen the cell walls in the
body, making them less vulnerable to attack by invading pathogens.
Conjugated Linoleic Acid, or CLA has also been proven as an effective
link in the immune system chain. Scientists from the Universities of
Southampton and Reading in England found that there is a growing body
of evidence to suggest that (CLA), a fat found in raw, pastured cows
milk [and pastured cattle, wild salmon, etc], helps to enhance the
human immune system and even avoid cancer. [editor: It has been my
belief for many years, that Dr. Weston Price's "Nutrient X" is really this
    Omega 3]

  • Are you getting enough Vit B12? - A recent study revealed that the
risk of developing Alzheimer's among individuals who get enough
antioxidants in their diet (including B vitamins) was 33% lower than
those who didn't. B12 is probably the most important member of the B
vitamin family being the most chemically complex of all vitamins, with a
molecular structure so intricate that only microorganisms can synthesize
it. B12 1) Insures normal brain and nervous system functioning; 2) Plays
a crucial role in blood formation; and 3) Helps the body digest key
substances and aids in metabolism. Vitamin B12 deficiency can actually
cause severe and irreversible damage, especially to the brain and
nervous system. The only sources of B12 are animal products, especially
red meat. Because standard agri-business grown meat tends to be
unbalanced and downright unhealthful, the best source of all is pastured
    beef or buffalo.

  • Do we really need statins? - The Honolulu Heart Program study has
revealed that statins – and the low cholesterol levels they produce –
cause problems for the elderly. This particular study is rare, as it's one
of the few that measured cholesterol levels over a twenty-year period.
Their results showed that those who maintained low cholesterol for
twenty years – from middle age into old age – had the highest risk of
death. Additionally, the ASCOTT-LLA study, the largest clinical trial on
the effectiveness of statin therapy in women, found that women who
took Lipitor (the world's most popular statin) had 10 percent more heart
attacks than the women who took the placebo. Finally, The Journal of
the American Medical Association (JAMA), has reported: "For women
without cardiovascular disease, lipid [cholesterol] lowering does not
affect total or CHD [Coronary Heart Disease] mortality…"  In other
words, statins don't do anything for otherwise healthy women with high
    cholesterol.

  • Vitamins Cure Skin Conditions - Skin troubles are a common, often
painful problem. Topical applications of vitamin E, and/or vitamin C and
niacin provide rapid relief. The first reports indicating that vitamin E,
and concentrated topical and IV solutions of vitamin C were a highly
effective treatment for burns surfaced over 50 years ago. Vitamins may
be used to treat both thermal burns and sun burns, as well as wrinkles,
pigmentation, scrapes, bug bites, and even bed sores.

  • Hawthorn 'benefits heart patients' - Hawthorn extract can help control
symptoms of chronic heart disease, research suggests. The herbal
medicine is capable of helping the heart to beat more powerfully,
increasing the amount of blood flowing through the organ's muscles,
experiments carried out by a group of Cochrane Researchers found.

  • Vitamin E may ward off physical decline in elderly - Vitamin E may
help elderly people keep their vim and vigor, researchers said on
Tuesday. The researchers measured levels of certain vitamins in the
blood of 698 people ages 65 and up in Italy, and then used three tests
-- a short walk, balance and standing up from a seated position -- to
gauge their physical functioning. They found that volunteers with lower
levels of vitamin E performed worse on these physical tests than those
with higher levels of the vitamin.

  • Jury Trials In 2008 Expected To Expose SSRI Maker's Dirty Secrets -
The blockbuster sales figures for the new generation of selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants (SSRI's), which have
resulted from their promotion for so many unapproved uses, represents
the most profitable off-label marketing coup in the history of modern
medicine. Sales total about $21 billion a year, according to IMS Health.
However, in the end these drugs will probably also hold the title for the
most lawsuits filed against drug companies for overstating their
benefits while concealing their serious side effects from as far back as
20 years ago. The SSRI's include Prozac by Eli Lilly; Paxil marketed by
GlaxoSmithKline, Zoloft by Pfizer, and Celexa and Lexapro from Forest
    Laboratories.

  • Science stacks up for B vitamins and pregnancy - Low maternal
vitamin B12 levels in combination with certain genes may have
detrimental knock-on effects to the offspring, suggests a new Dutch
that reports higher risk of heart problems. A combination of low vitamin
B12 levels and certain genotypes for the methionine synthase reductase
(MTRR) and transcobalamin II (TC) genes were found to increase the
risk of CHD by about 35 and 100 per cent, respectively, report the
researchers in the journal Molecular Genetics and Metabolism.
"Therefore, it might be favorable to advise women to use a diet rich in
vitamin B12 and eventually a vitamin B12 supplement in addition to a
folic acid supplement in the periconception period to achieve an optimal
vitamin B12 status," wrote Anna Verkleij-Hagoort from Erasmus MC,
    University Medical Center in Rotterdam.

  • Alzheimer's linked to long-term sub-nutrition - "Alzheimer's disease
may be a chronic condition in which changes begin in midlife or even
earlier." That quote, from Dr. John C Morris, director of Washington
University's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, appeared in a recent
New York Times article. And the message couldn't be clearer: Protect
yourself now to alleviate problems later. AD subjects had lower intake
of dietary fiber and protein, and were found to be generally deficient in
these nutrients: Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and Omega-3
fatty acids. The Montreal team noted that insufficient diet was clearly
evident in the early onset of AD. And they added: "This vulnerable
population would benefit from systematic dietary assessment and
intervention to prevent further deterioration in food consumption and
increased nutritional risk." In addition to improving the diets of AD
patients, supplementation with sage extract and lemon balm might also
be beneficial in controlling the advance of AD. A team of scientists at
the Medical Plant Research Centre (MPRC) in the UK have shown that
sage inhibits an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which
breaks down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter chemical that's typically
deficient in Alzheimer's patients. Professor Elaine Perry has presented
data that shows sage extract to have a significant effect on behavior
and attention in AD patients. And when lemon balm is added to sage,
the combination may improve memory and mood.

  • Cholesterol reality check - According to Shane Ellison, author of The
Truth About Acholesterol, "Cholesterol naturally rises as human’s age.
The elderly with the highest levels of cholesterol (greater than 300
mg/dL) live longest (compared to those with 200 mg/dL) and vice-versa.
Further, there is only ONE type of cholesterol in the human body. It’s
called…Cholesterol. There is no such thing as good cholesterol, bad
cholesterol or total cholesterol. It’s just cholesterol. And it’s not a
    poison.”

  • Avoiding Alzheimer's - Recent studies show that taking fish oil
capsules with their high concentrations of the Omega 3's DHA
(docosahexaenoic acid) increases the production of a protein called
LR11, which has been found at low levels in Alzheimer's patients. LR11
has been shown to destroy the poster-child-protein of Alzheimer's, beta-
amyloid plaque, fingered as responsible for the brain deterioration
characteristic of the disease. Evidently, having a high level of LR11
stops amyloid plaques from forming in the first place.  DHA is also
found in high levels in krill oil and grass-fed beef.

  • The cell-phone link to autism - A study published in the Journal of the
Australasian College of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine:
Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from cell phones, cell towers, Wi-Fi
devices and other similar wireless technologies may work in conjunction
with genetic and environmental factors, becoming an accelerating factor
in autism. After more than five years of research on children with autism
they found that EMR negatively affects cell membranes, allowing heavy
metal toxins, which are associated with autism, to build up in your
body. EMR can trap heavy metals inside of nerve cells, which could
accelerate the onset of symptoms of heavy metal toxicity, and hinder
your body’s natural clearance of the toxins. Avoiding dental amalgams
    and following a gluten-free, sugar-free, and pasteurized dairy-free diet
also seem significant in avoiding or treating autism.

  • Diabetes Type II and Leptin - Ron Rosedale, MD, one of the leading
experts in the United States on the natural treatment of diabetes, has
pointed out, diabetes is not a disease of blood sugar, but a disease of
insulin and perhaps more importantly leptin signaling. “Since most
treatments for (type 2, insulin resistant) diabetes utilize drugs which
raise insulin or actual insulin injections itself, the tragic result is that
the typical, conventional medical treatment for diabetes contributes to
the manifestation of side effects and the shortened lifespan that
diabetics experience.”  The key to overcoming this disease is therefore
not to focus on lowering your blood sugar by taking medications. Rather
it is to maximize the accuracy of insulin and leptin signaling in your
body, and this done through proper nutrition.

Point to Ponder #1 - Truly Green Spring Household
Cleaning by Annie Bond
http://www.care2.com/greenliving/cut-to-the-chase-cleaning.html

One of the first questions out of reporters' mouths when they call me is
how a consumer can tell what is a truly green product and what isn't? Not
easily, especially now that mainstream companies such as Clorox are
jumping into the fray with their Green Works line. Why not play it safe
with these four best basic formulas that always work?

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  When it comes down to it, do-it-yourself non-toxic
cleaning using tried-and-true kitchen cupboard ingredients is still the best
green practice. Simple, successful, non-toxic and natural. Here are four
great formulas that will never fail you:

Soft Scrub
This superstar formula is as good for cleaning the bathtub as it is for
stainless steel appliances and shower stalls.
1/2 cup baking soda
Enough liquid soap or detergent to make a frosting-like consistency
5 drops antibacterial essential oil such as lavender, tea tree oil, or
rosemary (optional)
- Pour the baking soda in a bowl; slowly pour in the liquid soap or
detergent, stirring all the while, until the consistency reaches that of
frosting. Scoop the creamy mixture onto a sponge, wash the surface, and
rinse.

Window Cleaner
Nothing works as well as this formula for windows, so why look further?
Besides, once it is made you can double it up as a great degreaser,
especially handy in the kitchen.
1/4 cup vinegar (distilled, white, 5%)
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent
2 cups of water
- Combine in a spray bottle. Shake to blend.

All-Purpose Cleaner
Here you meet the wonders of washing soda (commonly found in the
laundry section of the supermarket), and its super heavy-duty alkaline
cleaning power.
1/2 teaspoon washing soda
A dab of liquid soap
2 cups hot tap water
- Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake until the washing
soda has dissolved. Apply and wipe off with a sponge or rag.

Deodorizer, Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Vinegar is astonishing as an acidic cleaning powerhouse. Heinz references
studies that say vinegar kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of old,
and 80 percent of germs.
5 percent straight white distilled vinegar
- Pour the vinegar into a spray bottle, and spray directly onto areas to be
cleaned or deodorized. Don't rinse!

... Forget all the expensive and dangerous "anti-bacterial" cleaners that
abound in the super market and big box stores - go truly natural with the
suggestions above and below! Most are naturally anti-bacterial, anti-viral,
anti-fungal and yet are totally safe for kids and pets without accelerating
bacterial & viral mutations.
  • Consider using Dynamite Super ACV for ALL of your vinegar needs,
not just the cleaning part although it certainly does a simply super
    job there!
  • Another natural cleaner is the 3% peroxide you get at the health
food store rather than the drug store. Mixed half & half in a spray
bottle, use it to clean everything from counters, to windows/mirrors,
to toilets, to laundry; it even works as a super mouth rinse! To learn
    more, see https://momentum98.com/peroxide.html
  • And of course there's lemons to throw into your kitchen disposal or
to mix the juice with some olive oil for the best furniture polish ever!
  • For those wanting to get away from various laundry detergents,
including the natural ones, consider the  tree-grown Soap Nuts
offered by US Wellness meats, www.grasslandbeef.com

Point to Ponder #2 - Internal "Spring Cleaning" by Dr.
Richard Schulze, Herbalist & Naturopath

I used to think our anatomy was like my brother’s 1950 Ford. You know, a
lung up here, a kidney way down there, a bowel in the middle, with lots of
room. Then one day in naturopathic school, I examined my first cadaver
and WOW, what an enlightening experience. The human anatomy is not
like my brother’s 1950 Ford at all, it is like my 1998 Ford. Every square
inch is packed with something and everything is touching something else.
This body of ours must have had some incredible engineer. Everything has
its place and THERE IS NO EXTRA ROOM! If one organ swells or gets
bigger, then another organ – usually the one next to it – gets squeezed,
compressed or crushed. Organs don’t work so well when they are crushed,
and the blood, lymphatic, nerve and general circulation gets interrupted.
Every organ needs good circulation to get nutrition in and get waste out
in order to be healthy. Squeezed and compressed organs get sick.

The entire colon is so big that it is connected to, touches, sits next to or
is in the vicinity of every major organ in the human body except the brain.
It also touches most of your major blood vessels and nerves. Constipation
causes the colon to literally swell, expand and even herniate. And
according to the leading medical books, it is happening to all of us. So
when an area of the colon gets constipated and swells, it compresses and
crushes the organ next to it. This could be the lungs, the heart, the liver
and gallbladder, the pancreas, the kidneys and adrenals, the uterus, the
prostate, again, almost every major organ in the body. This is simply why
a constipated, swollen colon can cause an almost endless amount of
seemingly unrelated diseases and problems. And I haven’t even discussed
toxic build-up in the colon that literally oozes into your blood and infects
and poisons not just the nearby organs, but every organ and every cell in
the body.

What's the bottom line? A sluggish, constipated, swollen bowel, retaining
pounds of old fecal matter can either compress a nearby area causing
disease, or emit infection and toxins which can affect and infect any area
of the body. This explains why about 80% of my patients that came into
my clinic healed their heart problems, blood pressure problems, breathing
problems, blood sugar problems, hormone imbalance problems, fertility
problems, liver problems, cholesterol problems, immune problems, urinary
problems, adrenal and lack of energy problems, prostate problems,
digestive problems, lower back problems, leg circulation and nerve
problems. The list is almost endless. They healed themselves by cleaning
out their colons before I ever did any specialized treatment for their
problem. This explains why so many of my patients healed their almost
infinite list of problems by doing my Intestinal Detoxification Program.

No matter how far removed the problem seems from the colon, no matter
how ridiculous it may seem to do a bowel cleansing program instead of
brain surgery, cleanse the bowel first and see what happens. If you’re like
my patients, you will be thrilled with the results.

Point to Ponder #3 - Warning on Osteoporosis Drugs
by Dr. Ben Kim
According to a report in the January 19 issue of BMJ, pharmaceutical
companies exaggerate the benefits of osteoporosis drugs, and downplay
the risks of prescribing osteoporosis drugs for women whose bones appear
to be slightly weakened (a condition called osteopenia).

The report suggests that pharmaceutical companies are pushing for
women with osteopenia to take the same drugs that women with
osteoporosis are being prescribed; the problem with this scenario is that
women with osteopenia have such a low risk of experiencing fractures
that taking osteoporosis drugs would provide almost no benefit.

Study co-author Dr. Pablo Alonso-Coello, a family physician at Hospital
Sant-Pau in Barcelona contends that four studies that found benefits to
giving osteoporosis drugs to women with osteopenia exaggerated the
benefits.

To illustrate how numbers can be manipulated for self-serving purposes,
Dr. Alonso-Coello gives the following example:

The absolute risk of a woman with osteoporosis having a fracture in a
given year might be 10 percent.

The effect of an osteoporosis drug is to lower that risk by half, so the
absolute benefit is a 5 percent reduction.

But in women with pre-osteoporosis (osteopenia), the risk of fracture is
very low, say 1 percent a year, so if you lower that by half, you go down
to 0.5 percent absolute reduction.

One study cited in Dr. Alonso-Coello's paper claimed a 75 percent relative
reduction in risk of fracture. The absolute risk reduction was 0.9 percent,
which, from a statistical perspective, means that up to 270 women with
pre-osteoporosis would have to take osteoporosis drugs for three years to
avoid a single fracture.

Dr. Alonso-Coello's paper concludes: "This move to treat pre-osteoporosis
raises serious questions about the benefit-risk relationship for low-risk
individuals, and about the costs of medicalizing and potentially
medicating an enormous group of healthy people."

Read the rest of Dr. Kim's article, including his 8 ways to naturally
avoid osteoporosis
http://drbenkim.com/osteoporosis-drug-dangers

.... Dr. Kim's discussion points bring to mind a study that a Dynamite
representative took part in a number of years ago. Instead of the
"osteoporosis pill" which was being tested, this woman took ONLY
Dynamite's
Herbal Green. Apparently she had the highest rate of
increased bone density in the group, but when she admitted what she
had done, she, and her amazing results, were deleted from the study. Dr.
Kim also recommends bone broths, such as Sally Fallon has long
recommended in her outstanding, and highly recommended book
Nourishing Traditions. If you believe you have no time to make these
delicious stocks from scratch using grass-fed animal ingredients (it's
actually quite simple!), consider buying some from US Wellness Meats
(
www.grasslandbeef.com), who make a Sally Fallon Marrow Bone Broth
from their own grass-fed cattle.

Point to Ponder #4 - Scientific American has Second
Thoughts About Flouride

Editors for Scientific American believe recent studies suggest that fluoride
raises the risks of disorders affecting teeth, bones, the brain and the
thyroid gland, and in general “scientific attitudes” about fluoridation may
be shifting.

"Fluoride, the most consumed drug in the USA, is deliberately added to
2/3 of public water supplies theoretically to reduce tooth decay, but with
no scientifically-valid evidence proving safety or effectiveness," says
lawyer Paul Beeber, president of the New York State Coalition Opposed to
Fluoridation.

Meanwhile, according to environmental reporter and director of New York
University's Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program Dan
Fagin, "There is no universally accepted optimal level for daily intake of
fluoride."

After analyzing hundreds of fluoride studies, researchers found that
fluoride:

Alters endocrine function, especially in the thyroid
  • Causes dental fluorosis in young children
  • May lower IQ
  • May increase the risk of bone fractures
Because scientific evidence suggests that water fluoridation is ineffective
and dangerous to health, over 1,200 professional are now urging Congress
to stop water fluoridation.

Point to Ponder #5 - Lipitor Ads Spark Congressional
Probe
Lipitor has been running a series of ads in which a kindly "doctor," Robert
Jarvik, inventor of the artificial heart, tells viewers about the benefits of
the cholesterol-lowering medication Lipitor. These ads, and their use of
celebrity endorsers such as Jarvik, are now being investigated by
Congress for potentially misleading viewers.

In the ads, Dr. Jarvik appears to be giving medical advice, but he has
never obtained a license to practice or prescribe medicine.

Critics of the drug industry claim that such ads emotionally manipulate
viewers and underemphasize the potential side effects of drugs.

The congressional probe focuses on the Lipitor ads, but will likely examine
others, such as actress Sally Field's endorsement of the osteoporosis drug
Boniva.

DR MERCOLA'S COMMENTS - Some 30 years ago, hypercholesterolemia
(high cholesterol) was an affliction of middle-aged men with cholesterol
over 300 plus other risk factors, such as smoking and obesity. Since then,
the massive fear about this non-disease has been created largely by the
drug companies.

They have done this while simultaneously manipulating the definition of
high cholesterol by controlling the government panels that are responsible
for the definitions. This combination has led to absolutely spectacular
profits of tens of billions of dollars, as their reward for their effective
market manipulation.

By 1984 anyone (male or female) with cholesterol over 200 could receive
the dreaded diagnosis and a prescription for pills. Then it was moved
down to 180. Today, we’re down to recommended levels of less than 100
and drugs are prescribed to children as young as 10 years old.

This is Absolutely Insane!

Point to Ponder #6 - What your spit can tell you about
breast cancer by Dr. W.C. Douglass, MD

Scientists have discovered a new way of testing for breast cancer that
could make the mammogram a thing of the past-and it's about time. The
test could potentially be far more accurate than the old-school
mammograms-not to mention much safer. If this catches hold in the
medical community, women can say goodbye to those breast- smashing
vise grips. Now, all they'll have to do is open wide and say, "Ahh."

U.S. scientists are developing a breast cancer screening test that checks a
woman's saliva for evidence of the disease. They say they've identified 49
proteins in saliva that can actually distinguish healthy women from those
with benign breast tumors and those with malignant breast tumors.

According to Charles Streckfus, a professor at the University of Texas
Dental Branch at Houston, "Breast cancer triggers a change in the type
and amount of proteins in the secretions from the salivary glands." And
sure enough, when the researchers tested a group of 30 women - 10
healthy, 10 with benign tumors, and 10 with malignant tumors - the
protein patterns were found to be different in all three groups.

If this is true, it could finally put an end to what I've considered the most
dangerous method of breast cancer screening: the mammogram. Yes, in
spite of the many multimedia pushes encouraging women to get
mammograms as early as possible, it's long been my belief that these
tests have been doing more harm than good.

The reason? What I call "compression syndrome."

spite of the many multimedia pushes encouraging women to get
mammograms as early as possible, it's long been my belief that these
tests have been doing more harm than good.

The reason? What I call "compression syndrome."

Very simply, severe compression of the breast (such as the kind that
occurs during a mammogram) can lead to microscopic tissue ruptures -
even in the tissue of the tumor. This tear can actually create a "leak" in
the tumor, which allows the malignancy to spread and cause an
acceleration of the cancer-and an earlier death.

Every doctor knows that breast lumps should be handled with a great
degree of care, because handling them roughly could cause such a
rupture. It's something that's drilled into your head in med school (or at
least it was back in my day).

And any woman who has experienced a mammogram knows that it
squashes the breast pancake-flat until it hurts-hardly what I'd call
"handling with care."

Food of the Month - Green Smoothies

While you're "green-cleaning" your house, why not "green-clean" your
body, too? Green smoothies can help alkalize your body and cleanse
toxins from your intestines enabling you to have more energy, glowing
skin, mental acuity, freedom from inflammation and a wide array of other
health benefits.

Just like their fruit-only, well-loved brothers, adding just a handful of raw
greens to a smoothie is a wonderful way to increase nutrient values and
get in those necessary greens. And you can't even taste the greens!

Green smoothies make a super breakfast for the whole family from
toddlers to great-grandma. They can also act as an ideal, healthful and
tasty meal replacer alternative for adults who want to help control weight
and health.

The generally-considered-optimal proportion for green smoothies is:
60% - ripe mixed organic fruit - anything available fresh or frozen
40% - organic green vegetables such as parsley, spinach, celery, kale and
romaine
It's very helpful to rotate your fruits and veggies to gain optimum
nutrition and provide as wide as possible nutritional benefits.

Liquid used can be pure water, fresh coconut water, coconut or almond
milk, raw/pastured dairy milk, even broths made from organic veggies
and/or pastured-only chicken/beef/bison - all depending on personal
needs ... remember that coconut tastes great, provides superior fats and
actually helps the body lose weight and build muscle.

If you are one of those who have purchased my book,
Living Energetically,
this is a great time to also start practising
"The Wringer" which
massages and energizes almost the entire intestinal tract plus the
liver/gallbladder and other organs. If you do NOT have the book, perhaps
now would be a good time get it!

Here are some suggestions to get you started. As you can see, there is
truly an infinite variety of combinations to suit everyone's tastes and
nutritional needs. But remember, you still need to drink your water!

HINTS
  • always blend fruits first to form a base and then add greens
  • if you're craving something a bit sweeter, toss in 1 or 2 pitted dates
  • for even more energy, Omega 3 and blood sugar stabilization, add 1-
3 tsp chia seeds (remember to avoid flax as it can depress thyroid
    function)
  • 1 round T mesquite pod powder helps hunger pangs, stabilizes blood
    sugar, and tastes great!
  • raw egg or egg yolk for extra protein, Omega 3 fats and B-vitamins -
    you'll never taste it
  • 1-2 oz grated/frozen raw, free-range liver is even better than the egg
yolk and you still won't taste it!
  • if your blender can handle it (use a powerful "bar" blender or a
VitaMix), use frozen fruit or ice cubes
