Book Reviews Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life by James Hollis, PhD - In Oriental thought, human life is considered to be comprised of three stages: child, householder, sage. Here, Dr. Hollis gives deep Jungian, spiritual insight into achieving that last stage. Far from being a "how-to" handbook and containing superficial psycho-babble, this volume presents instead a different way of interacting with the world around us by asking questions. It is up to the reader to traverse the inner landscape since there are no easy answers and he certainly has a different view of "fun." Rather than always being led strictly by outside influences, Hollis shows the deep satisfaction and contentment which comes from being more inner directed. For those unfamiliar with Carl Jung's work which leads directly spirit rather than staying strictly with mind, this is an excellent and practical introduction. Why Men Never Remember and Women Never Forget by Marianne J. Legato, MD - Even children know there are differences, aside from the obvious external ones, between men and women, but in this book, Dr. Logato, founder of The Partnership for Gender-specific Medicine at Columbia University, shares in an extremely easy-to-read volume much of what she has learned about startling new research showing the sex-specific brain structure, even to using entirely different areas of the brain for similar tasks. Other, perhaps more familiar, differences also abound from hormonal impact to differences in heart structure and the fact that men do not have near as sharp a sense of smell as women nor do they perceive the "trees" near so much as viewing the whole "forest." Written from a decidedly female point of view, this volume should help ease many relationship communication hang-ups. Testimonials 1) Dynamite Sheep - We got interested in DYNAMITE® when my daughter, Kelsey, started her market lamb project because we wanted a supplement that was actually good for the lambs but would still give us an edge in the show ring. Once we started using it we liked the results so much that we started giving it to the breeding ewes as well. We have found that overall our sheep are much healthier, having little to no health problems and if you are familiar with sheep you know that they can get anything, anytime! This is my daughter’s third year with her 4-H project. The first year we purchased her lambs from a breeder; we were not using the DYNAMITE® and had nothing but health problems and trips to the vet. The second year we had our own ewes that we got on the DYNAMITE® program and she used two of the lambs for her project. The lambs we raised on the DYNAMITE® had no trips to the vet or health concerns and did very well at the fair. This year we had no lambs due to problems with a ram and had to purchase lambs (from a different breeder). Again we have had problems with already three trips to the vet. I can't wait until our next crop of lambs and a lot fewer headaches! Our program includes one tsp. Exotics Plus, a quarter tsp. Excel a day and all the Browser Grazer Mix they want plus forage on our pasture which we fertilized with HumiZyme in February. The market lambs got this as well as some HES for muscle tone. This program has given us the most bang for our bucks with great results. If you are using DYNAMITE® products for your sheep, email me so we could compare notes kshawnheather@msn.com. Thanks DYNAMITE®, The Kyle family 2) A Dynamite 4-H Success - My sons Kirk and Keith Abercrombie raise turkey's and lambs for 4-H. Last year Kirk won Reserve Grand Champion Turkey with one of his hens. This year (2005), Keith won first and tied for second place on both lambs in the Rate of Gain Contest. Both years we fed Dynamite to the turkeys and lambs. This is some of the best turkey and lamb I have ever eaten! CO Director Val Gaffield Did you know?... (from various sources)
Point to Ponder #1 - Learning About B Vitamins by Dr. Janet Star Hull www.janethull.com B2 - important in the prevention and treatment of cataracts. Also known as Riboflavin or even vitamin G, is responsible for the harmless side effect of coloring a vitamin-taker's urine bright yellow B3 - Indiiduals who are highly toxic or drink alcohol daily have an increased need for (niacin). Because they do not metabolize the vitamin efficiently, elderly peole and individuals with hyperthyroidism also need higher doses of niacin. Taking higher doses of niacin is also an excellent way to cleanse the blood. B5 - has been found to be helpful in treating depression B6 - pyridoxine, is involved in more bodily functions than almost any otehr nutrient. B7 - is also known as biotin. Best known as a moisturizing agent in shampoos, conditioners, and skin creams, biotin is essential to numerous body processes. B12 - this vitamin is linked to the production of a neurotransmitter that assists memory and learning. Unlike the other B vitamins, B12 takes several hours to be absorbed by the digestive tract. While excess vitamin B12 is excreted in the urine, a small "backup" supply is stored for 3-5 years in the liver. People taking anticoagulant drugs, anti gout medication, or potassium supplements, vegans, the elderly, and people with AIDS have an increased need for vitamin B12. B15 - also known as Pangamic Acid & Dimethyl Glycine (DMG), it is controversial in America and has been removed from the BComplex supplements despicte the fact that Russia has found it very important in treating a multitude of symptoms and diseases:
together with the pancreatic inzyme trypsin forms a natural barrier against cancer growth.. Banned in the US since the 70's, vitamin B17 is a natural cyanide-containing compoound that gives up its cyanide content only in the presence of a particular enxyme group called beta glucosidase or glucuronidases. Miraculously, this enzyme goup is found almost exclusively in cancer cells. If found elsewhere in the body, it is accompanied by greater quantities of another enzyme, rhodanese, which has the ability to disable the cyanide and convert it into completely harmless substances. Cancer tissues do not hae this protecting enzyme and are destroyed. Foods rich in B17 include: watercress, spinach, bamboo sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, lentil sprouts, whole nuts, mung bean sprouts, ground nuts, garanzo sprouts, apple seeds, apricot pits. ............. it is important to take the full complement, or as full as you can get, of B vitamins together; all are water soluble. Point to Ponder #2 - Measles Vaccine Undeniably Linked to Autism The vaccine strain of measles virus has been found in the guts of 85 percent of autistic children in a New York University School of Medicine study. The finding renews concerns that the triple combination vaccine of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) given to children may not be entirely safe. In the study, biopsies of gut tissue were performed on 82 autistic children who had serious intestinal inflammation. Seventy of these showed evidence of the measles virus. Similar results were found by Dr. Andrew Wakefield, who found the measles virus in the guts of 12 autistic children in 1998, and pathologist John O'Leary in 2002. In the UK, over 2,000 parents say their children were developing normally until they received the MMR vaccine when they were 12-18 months old. Afterward, the children developed autism. Some theorize that the virus may pass through the gut and into the bloodstream, from which it is able to attack the brain. Mainstream scientists maintain that there is no evidence linking the MMR vaccine to autism, however, in the UK concerns regarding MMR's potential side effects have driven vaccination rates to as low as 70 percent. Association of American Physicians and Surgeons May 30, 2006 Times Online.co.uk May 29, 2006 Telegraph.co.uk May 29, 2006 DR MERCOLA SAYS: For longtime readers of this site, you will not be at all surprised about this association as I have been mentioning it on this site for nearly nine years. However, to many new readers this probably sounds like medical heresy. If you recently started exploring natural medicine I implore you to take a few deep breaths, calm yourself and carefully and objectively examine the evidence. Avoid the temptation to dismiss this as a bunch of rubbish because experts you trust say otherwise. The vaccine issue is one of the most controversial topics in medicine and typically one of the last positions a conventionally trained physician will relinquish once they carefully study the issue. I know that was true for me and my views of Dr. Robert Mendelsohn, one of the major pioneers in this area. Like most physicians I viewed him as a dangerous ignorant quack who clearly did not understand what he was talking about and whose views were putting innocent children at risk. However, as I learned more about the risks of vaccines, and began to see hundreds of brain-injured children in my own practice who had been damaged by vaccines, my views changed quite dramatically. I actually regret never having met him before he died, as he worked out of the University of Illinois, which is where I graduated from. Dr. Mendelsohn was a brave man who dared to tell the truth and stood up to the conventional system to protect kids from the harm that vaccines were causing. He wrote an excellent book, How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor, that is still available today. It can help you sort through the vaccine mess if you are still in the exploration phase and just aren't sure if vaccines are useful or harmful yet. So I urge you to not make the same mistake I did 20 years ago and quickly dismiss this issue because it conflicts with what you were taught. For your sake and, more importantly, for the sake of your precious children, please examine this issue very carefully before you pass a harsh judgment on this important issue. ........... Rowan's view is that if you or your children have EVER had a measles vaccine or a flu shot (which also still use thimerosol/mercury), then YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO DETOX THE METALS FROM YOUR SYSTEM VIA NATURAL CELLULAR DEFENSE! Point to Ponder #3 - Mammograms & Breast Cancer http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_3983262 X-ray may raise risk of breast cancer for some Genetically vulnerable women are more likely to get the disease after a mammogram, tests find. By Judy Peres, Chicago Tribune Chicago - High-risk women who rely on mammograms as a weapon against breast cancer may actually increase their chances of getting the disease, according to preliminary research released Monday. The study looked at 1,600 European women with genetic mutations that predispose them to get breast cancer. Women who reported having had at least one chest X-ray were 54 percent more likely to develop breast cancer than those who had never had one. This Catch-22, reported in the current issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, means women with mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes might want to consider being screened with magnetic resonance imaging instead of X-rays, doctors said. It also suggests that women and men with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer might want to consider genetic testing to find out if they carry a mutation before they get any X-rays to the chest area, doctors said. Exposure to ionizing radiation - the kind that comes from nuclear fallout as well as from X- rays - is known to cause breast cancer. But the risk is small enough for the vast majority of women older than 40. Experts still recommend that they get annual screening mammograms. In women younger than 40, mammograms are less accurate and the radiation is potentially more dangerous. But those are the women most at risk for hereditary breast cancer. MRI could eventually become the preferred screening tool for high-risk women, said Dr. Olufumilayo Olopade, director of the cancer risk clinic at the University of Chicago Medical Center, who wrote an editorial accompanying the study. But it's not a perfect solution. MRI alone can be hard to read and can have a high rate of false- positive results, which lead to unnecessary biopsies, said Dr. Virginia Kaklamani, an expert in breast cancer and cancer genetics at Northwestern University. So, if something suspicious is found on an MRI, she said, "I'd probably recommend a mammogram" despite the radiation. "Until we have more research," Kaklamani said, "younger women with a genetic susceptibility to breast cancer are between a rock and a hard place." ..... For those who truly understand the energetics of X-rays in the first place, exposing delicate breast tissue to them has always seemed very suspect at best - not to mention the squeezing endured by the women. Personally, I have never subjected my body to mammograms and never will - this in spite of the fact that I have had a lumpectomy. To me, the best way to avoid cancer in all it's forms is through avoiding toxins and/or cleaning them out (NCD) and then building the immune system through good clean food, green drinks and appropriate supplements (Dynamite) as per the testimonial posted in June's Newsletter/E-Meeting. July is the month of picnics and grilling. What goes better with grilled chicken, steak, salmon and vegetables than fresh home-made coleslaw? Here are some slaw varieties that taste great and provide loads of nutrition, too! COLESLAW - The real secret to good Cole Slaw is to remember that this is basically a cabbage salad so it shouldn't be runny. That means it's usually best to shred the cabbage by hand rather than sending it through a food processor which can soggy it out. Also only add the drier type of veggies and dress it lightly and carefully. Unlike most salads, slaw needs to be mixed up ahead of time and allowed to blend in the frig for about an hour or so prior to serving. TO SHRED CABBAGE BY HAND - Cut the cabbage in half discarding both the outer tough leaves and the inner core. Cut each half into half (cabbage will then be quartered) and wash under cold water. Place each quarter on its side and slice very thin slices with a sharp knife or, if you have it, a mandolin. Vegetables can be grated on the large holes of a box grater or sliced into thin strips (julienne) or discs either with a knife or mandolin. CLASSIC SLAW - combine 4 cups (one head) of shredded green cabbage, 2-3 grated carrots, 1 cup minced scallions (or vidalia onion) with 1/2 cup Super ACV (vinegar), 1/4 cup or less macadamia nut or walnut oil, NTM Salt & fresh ground pepper to taste, pinch or so @ mustard and celery seeds to taste. NEW YORK SLAW - to Classic slaw add 2-3 cloves minced garlic, 1-2 tsp dill seeds, and juice of 1/2 lemon CALIFORNIA SLAW - to Classic slaw add 1/3 cup raisins, 1 diced Granny Smith apple, 1 cup raw/hulled sunflower seeds and 1/4-1/2 cup whole yogurt HAWAIAN SLAW - to Classic slaw add 1-2 cups fresh diced pineapple which has been allowed to drain and 1 cup shredded raw coconut PEPPER SLAW - to Classic slaw substitute 1 @ shredded/julienned red, yellow, & purple bell peppers plus 1 seeded & minced Anaheim pepper for the carrots RED SLAW - Combine 4 cups shredded red cabbage, 1/2 cup shredded carrots or beets, 1/2 cup minced red onion, 1/2 cup Super ACV (or red wine vinegar) and 1 tsp mustard seeds in a large bowl with NTM Salt & fresh ground pepper to taste. SOUTHERN SLAW - In a small saucepan, dissolve 3T evaporated cane sugar (Rapadura) or agave nectar in 1 cup Super ACV over a medium heat. Add 2/3 cup organic ketchup, 1/2 cup water, 1 tsp NTM salt, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/4 tsp chili powder, dash of hot pepper sauce and NTM Salt & pepper to taste; simmer until it just starts to thicken and cool. Mix together 2 cups @ shredded green cabbage and shredded broccoli spears and toss with dressing. With this slaw, it's best to serve it without the usual blending in the frig. ASIAN SLAW - Toss together 3 cups shredded napa (or green) cabbage with 1 cup shredded bok choy and 1 cup mung bean sprouts & 1 cup julienned yellow pepperr. Combine 1/4 Super ACV (or rice wine vinegar), 2T sesame oil and 1 tsp agave nectar. Pour over cabbage mixture and toss. RED, WHITE & BLUE SLAW - toss together 4 cups shredded white cabbage and 1-2 cups julienned sweet red peppers. Dress with your favorite Blue cheese dressing toping with crisp crumbled bacon if desired. Words of Inspiration - Important Life Lessons 1. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride. 2.
