Did you know?...   (from various sources)
  • SARS: NO EVIDENCE THAT ANY OF THE TREATMENTS WORKED -- The
SARS virus set alarm bells ringing across the world when it first appeared in
2002, but now a review of the effectiveness of the treatments used against it
has found no evidence that any of them worked. The review was
commissioned by the World Health Organization and has been published in
    PLoS Medicine.

  • REDUCING NITRIC OXIDE GAS IN THE BRAIN MAY HELP US STAY
AWAKE -- People who must stay awake for long shifts - soldiers, pilots,
truckers, students, doctors, parents of newborns - may take comfort from new
research showing that preventing the gas nitric oxide from building up in the
brain may ward off the sleep urge.     (And the way to reduce nitric oxide in the
brain is to get more sleep. Makes sense.)

  • GLAXOSMITHKLINE TO PAY $70M TO SETTLE ALLEGATIONS OF DRUG
PRICE INFLATION -- GlaxoSmithKline on Thursday said it has agreed to a
$70 million settlement with New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer (D), other
state attorneys general, health insurance plans and consumers over
allegations that the company artificially inflated average wholesale prices of
    prescription drugs.

  • HOW THE ADRENAL "CLOCK" KEEPS THE BODY IN SYNCH -- In
mammals, including humans, a master clock in the brain and subordinate
clocks found in organs throughout the body coordinate daily, or circadian,
rhythms of behavior and physiology. Now, researchers reporting in the August
Cell Metabolism, have elucidated the role of clocks of the adrenal glands in
keeping those physiologic and metabolic rhythms in synchrony.

  • ADHD DRUG LABEL CHANGES ANNOUNCED BY FDA -- RISK OF
PSYCHOTIC BEHAVIOR -- Dexedrine and Ritalin are drugs used to treat
ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder). The FDA announced changes
to their labels, and possibly those of some other ADHD drugs, to include a
warning of a risk of heart problems and psychotic behavior. The FDA has
received reports of sudden death among children and teens who had heart
    problems and took Dexedrine.

  • FIGHT TO END GIFTS FROM PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES TO
DOCTORS -- The AARP and the American Medical Student Association
(AMSA) are working together to make prescription drugs more affordable for
all citizens of New York. The two organizations announced today that they
support legislation that will require drug manufacturers to publicly report how
much they spend on gifts designed to influence doctors to prescribe their new,
    costly, brand name drugs.

  • BRIGHT IDEA: SUNLIGHT CURBS AFTERNOON DROWSINESS -- Letting
in a little extra light throughout the day may do more than just lift your spirits. It
could make you more alert and help you avoid an afternoon energy slump.
Ambient light influences brain functions and different aspects of human
physiology such as circadian rhythm, heart rate, and hormone release. While
these functions have been recognized and studies have looked at the part of
the brain that induces these responses at nighttime, little has been known
    about daytime responses to light.

  • NATIONAL SURVEY SHOWS 91% OF U.S. PHARMACISTS UNAWARE
THEY DISPENSE UNAPPROVED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS -- Medical
Marketing Research, Inc. today announced the results of a nationwide,
random-sample survey of 500U.S. retail pharmacists concerning their
dispensing habits for pharmaceutical products. This survey was designed to
specifically measure pharmacists' awareness that they may be dispensing
products that have never undergone the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
    approval process.

  • PLACEBO STUDY FRAMES DEPRESSION TREATMENT PUZZLE --
Treating major depression can be quite a puzzle, and a newly published
UCLA study suggests medication is just one of many potential pieces.
Published in the August 2006 edition of the American Journal of Psychiatry,
the study used electroencephalogram (EEG) measurements to demonstrate
an association between eventual clinical outcome and regional changes in
brain activity during a placebo lead-in phase prior to antidepressant
    treatment.

  • FDA DRUG DIRECTORY IS FRAUDULENT -- The National Drug Code
Directory compiled by FDA does not include about 9,200 medications and
includes 34,200 treatments no longer on the market or listed in error.   

Point to Ponder #1 -  Chemo & Nutritional
Supplements

Dr. Julian Whitaker's Health & Healing, Sept 2006, Vol. 16, No. 9
(www.drwhitaker.com)
According to Julian Whittaker, MD, the question about whether
chemotherapy patients can have nutritional supplements and
especially antioxidants should always be answered with a
resounding YES.

"The widespread belief that vitamin and mineral supplements are
detrimental to patients undergoing chemotherapy should have
been laid to rest years ago. In his landmark book Cancer and
Nutrition, written in the early 1990's, oncologist Charles Simone,
MD, blows away this misconception. Citing numerous references,
he states, 'All studies show that vitamins and minerals do not
interfere with the anti-tumor effects of chemotherapy or radiation
therapy. In fact, on the contrary, some vitamins and minerals
used in conjunction with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy
have been shown to protect normal tissue and potentiate the
destruction of cancer cells'.

Yet, conventional physicians continue to spread this harmful,
ignorant myth. It stems in part from an entrenched bias against
nutritional supplements. But is also arises from the common
belief that chemotherapeutic drugs kill cancer cells by inflicting
oxidative, or free radical, damage. However, according to Jeanne
Drisko, MD, a researcher and faculty member at the University of
Kansas School of Medicine, the latest research shows that chemo
actually works in a different way. Cancer cells override the signals
that control normal growth. As a result, they reproduce
uncontrollably, fail to differentiate or mature into specialized
cells, and refuse to self-destruct when they are diseased or
damaged (a process called aptosis). Chemotherapy drugs simply
activate the self-signaling systems that promote aptosis, causing
cancer cells to 'commit suicide'. Dr. Drisko has tested the
concurrent use of one of the most popular antioxidants, vitamin
C, with virtually every chemotherapeutic agent out there, and it
did not reduce the effectiveness of the drugs in a single case.

There is no downside to taking supplements while undergoing
chemotherapy, but there is a tremendous upside. The immune
systems of cancer patients are highly compromised, and a
majority of them suffer with malnutrition. Antioxidants and other
vitamins and minerals restore deficiencies in essential nutrients
and stimulate the production of activity of T cells, natural killer
cells, and other key players in immunity. Furthermore, they have
direct anti-tumor effects and protect against the toxic effects of
conventional cancer treatment.

This is another example of how medical beliefs and practices are
often generated out of plain ignorance. "

......I had a client once who had esophageal cancer and decided
to go ahead with the chemo and radiation. She too had been told
to avoid all supplementation and wanted to know what she could
do to avoid debilitating side-effects. I suggested she try taking
Dynamite Catalyst Water every day since it has the ability to aid
the body in maintaining a balanced pH. Turns out she sailed
through her treatment with NO side-effects whatsoever!
However, the news above could certainly aid many even more,
especially if you add plenty of Hiscorbadyne to your Dynamite
basics. The added nutrients actually protect against most
cancers anyway. For another approach to cancer treatment, you
might just check out my testimonial in our June 2006
Newsletter,

Point to Ponder #2 - Aspartame for Ants
http://www.mercola.
com/2006/sep/5/got_an_ant_problem_use_aspartame.htm
For all the dire health problems associated with aspartame -- the
worst of them being cancer -- the original "anything-but-sugar"
substitute may have an ideal purpose to exist, not as a food
additive, but as an ant poison

Already aware of aspartame's origins as a toxic chemical, a
health-conscious consumer with an ant problem emptied one
packet of aspartame in the corner of each of her bathrooms two
years ago. The "sweet" solution worked brilliantly, as she's seen
no signs of carpenter ants crawling around for the past year.

Aspartame may be just the thing for getting rid of fire ants
(impervious to many poisons) too, although this solution takes a
bit more effort. Initially, fire ants ignored their aspartame treat
until a light rain moistened it. After the rain, however, the fire
ants came back with a vengeance, taking the aspartame back to
the mound by the hundreds. Within two days, any evidence that
fire ants existed at all, save for an empty mound, vanished.

No mystery aspartame works like a pesticide, as the asparctic
acid contained in this toxic product is a well-documented
excitotoxin that causes specific brain cells to become excessively
excited to the point they quickly die, just as both kinds of ants
did.

Makes you wonder if aspartame is a far safer, better alternative
to getting rid of lawn and home pests than the average toxic
pesticides found at your neighborhood hardware store ...

If you ever wanted a painless way to find out all the dangers of
aspartame you will certainly want to view Sweet Misery. If you
are a natural health care practitioner you might want to consider
showing this in your reception area.

Idaho Observer June 2006
...... is this REALLY want you and your kids to be drinking in
those "diet" sodas or eating in a misplaced effort to diet? For
more about the very serious health risks of aspartame, go to
www.sweetpoison.com, the website of Dr. Janet Starr Hull who
herself almost died from aspartame poisoning.

Point to Ponder #3 - GM Foods
                         http://www.mercola.
com/2006/sep/5/secrets_in_your_food.htm
Most Americans are already eating genetically modified food,
even though they may have no idea that they are doing so.
Despite continuing criticism from those concerned about the
possible health effects, 75 percent of all processed food in the
United States now contains ingredients from genetically modified
crops.

Anti-genetic food protesters have argued that the food industry is
"serving up new and inadequately tested combinations of DNA
never before eaten by human beings," and questioning why, if the
food is completely safe, it isn't labeled.

Polls have shown that most Americans want genetically modified
food to be labeled, but the grocery industry worries that this
might scare away customers.

Some facts about genetically modified food:

* The majority of corn and soy products are genetically modified.
* There are no genetically modified meat, poultry, or dairy
products currently on the market. A biotech salmon is being
developed but hasn't been approved yet.
* Genetically modified rice intended for animals has found its way
into the human food supply.

ABC News August 21, 2006

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Even if some Americans are getting wiser about GM foods, they're
certainly having a tougher time avoiding them at their
neighborhood grocery store.

When 75 percent of all processed foods manufactured in America
have ingredients originating from GM crops, and those foods are
not labeled as such, avoiding GM foods becomes a tricky business
indeed.

The fact of the matter is, GM crops have not been proven safe, no
matter what their proponents say. The regulatory framework
governing them was designed to expedite product approval at the
expense of safety considerations.

The regulations use a principal called 'substantial equivalence,'
which is intentionally vague and ill-defined. It essentially gives
companies complete license to claim that transgenic products are
'substantially equivalent' to non-transgenic products, and hence
'safe.'

There have been very few credible studies on GM food safety. And
what findings there are already give cause for concern. In one of
the few systematic investigations on GM food ever carried out,
'growth factor-like' effects were found in the stomach and small
intestine of young rats that ate GM plants. And there have been
other studies that also raised serious safety concerns.

GM foods are basically a non-voluntary experiment on the earth's
biosphere and the whole of the human race. If, like me, you don't
particularly want to find out what the effects may be on your
body, here's a list of quick tips to help you steer clear of GM
products for good:

* Examine produce stickers on the fruits and vegetables you buy.
The PLU code for conventionally grown fruit consists of four
numbers, organically grown fruit has five numbers prefaced by the
number nine, and GM fruit has five numbers prefaced by the
number eight.
* Buy organic produce as often as you can. By definition, food
that is certified organic must be free from all GM organisms.
* Don't be concerned whole foods are more expensive than
processed foods, because they aren't.
* Stay away from processed foods.
...... and for those who can, grow your own foods from organic or
heirloom seed and fertilize only with your own compost and
Dynamite
fertilizers. You will be amazed at the difference for
sure!

Recipe of the Month - Halloween Treats
Instead of all those nasty purchased candies for this year's
Halloween Treats, make your own far more healthful versions!
Usually all of these mixtures are made into balls, but for those
creative artists out there, have fun molding them into whatever
shape suits your fancy or simply flatten them with a glass to
make into more of a cookie shape. Make ahead and, unless
someone eats them first, they will last about 3 days in your frig.
Best to refrigerate at least 2 hrs before serving.

Sunflower Fruit   In a food processor, blend together 3 cups
soaked, raw sunflower seeds (soaked overnight), 10 pitted dates,
1 cup @  chopped/dried/soaked/drained apricots & raisins, 1 cup
almond butter, 1T vanilla, 1/2 tsp cinnamon (opt) into a nutty
consistency. Roll into small balls. Cover and refrigerate for one
hour before serving.

Pecan Raisin   In a food processor, grind together 1 lb. pecans
and 1/4 cup rolled oats until very fine; set aside. Now process
together 10 pitted dates, 2 T almond butter/tahini, 1 tsp
cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla. Mix fruit paste into "flour" using your
clean hands. Then add 1 cup pre-soaked/drained raisins mixing
gently until raisins are well distributed. Roll mixture into small
balls.

Pecan Date Soak 2 cups of raw pecans and 1 1/2 cups of dates in
filtered water about 1-2 hrs. Drain well and blend together in a
food processor or strong blender until it turns into a coarse paste.
Shape into small balls.

Raw Carob Truffles  In a food processor, grind together 1/2 cup
@ soaked/dried pecans and almonds and 1/2 cup raw pine nuts;
add 1 cup medjool dates one at a time until well combined. Then
add 2T raw carob powder & 1 tsp vanilla and process just until
incorporated. Form mixture into small balls and roll each in
shredded coconut.

Hazelnut Fig Coconut Truffles  In a food processor, mix together
2 cups raw/soaked/dried/chopped hazelnuts, 1 cup soaked/dried
black mission figs, 1/2 cup soaked/drained dates, 1/4 cup raw
carob powder, and 1/4 cup  water; then add 1 cup soaked/dried
sesame seeds. Form mix into small balls and roll in shredded
coconut.
Refrigerate these hazelnut, fig, and coconut logs for at least 2
hours before serving.

Fruit Nut Fingers   These need to dry out for a day or two before
storing in frig. Process together 1/4 cup dry roasted cashews, 1
1/4 cup walnuts, 6 dried or fresh black figs, 1/2 cup pitted dates,
1/4 cup dried apples, 1/4 cup seedless raisins until thoroughly
mixed. Then blend in 1/4 tsp. fresh lemon juice & 1 T. apple
cider. Roll about a tablespoon of mix into a small finger-shaped
log and roll in flaked coconut; allow to stand uncovered for a day
or two to dry then store in refrigerator

Words of Wisdom 1  - God & the Scientist
(Thanks, Lois!)

God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him,
"Lord, we don't need you anymore.
Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing.
In other words, we can now do what you did in the 'beginning'."

"Oh, is that so? Tell me..." replies God.

"Well", says the scientist, "we can take dirt and form it into the
likeness of you and breathe life into it, thus creating man."

"Well, that's interesting. Show Me."

So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the
soil.

"Oh no, no, no..." interrupts God,
"Get your own dirt."

Words of Wisdom 2  -  A Pittance of Time
(Thanks, Gabi!)

Please click here to link to a website ( that contains one of the
most powerful songs and videos I have heard or seen. It is called
"A Pittance of Time" and it sent chills through me! The story of
how the song came about is right there on the Home Page. To
listen to the song or watch the video, simply click on the
appropriate button on the left side menu. Please have a little
patience as it does take the video a few minutes to download but
believe me, it is well worth the "pittance of time!" There is also a
button to get the lyrics and a link to Terry Kelly's, the
singer/composer, website which is an incredible experience in and
of itself.

    Until November!
